When is Father's Day 2026?

Father’s Day is a widely celebrated occasion designed to recognize and appreciate the role and contributions of fathers in the society. This special day is typically commemorated on the third Sunday of June in many parts of the world, though the date may vary in some regions. Father's Day was established to complement Mother's Day, emphasizing the importance of both parents in the upbringing and development of a child. Did you know, unlike Mother’s Day which was readily accepted, Father’s Day had a rocky start? Although Sonora Smart Dodd from Spokane proposed the idea of having a day dedicated to honoring fathers in 1909, it took decades before it was finally recognized. Dodd wanted to honor her father, a civil war veteran who single-handedly raised six children after his wife died during childbirth. Even though President Woodrow Wilson celebrated it in 1916, it wasn't until 1972, during President Richard Nixon's tenure, that Father's Day was officially declared a national holiday. That's more than 60 years after Mother's Day was officially declared a national holiday!
