Learn more about Easter
Easter is a significant Christian holiday that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ, as described in the New Testament of the Bible. According to scripture, it happened on the third day after Jesus was crucified by the Romans and died in approximately 30 A.D. The actual date of Easter varies each year and is determined by the lunar calendar, falling on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the vernal equinox. Easter is also associated with various customs and traditions, many of which have origins in pagan celebrations. These include Easter eggs, which symbolize new life and the joy of resurrection; Easter lambs, signifying Jesus Christ's sacrifice; and the Easter Bunny, originating from a German folklore creature that would judge whether children were good or disobedient in the lead-up to Easter, similar to Santa Claus at Christmas. However, main practices for Easter celebration remain Church services, feasts and processions.
Fun Fact
Do you know that the tradition of Easter eggs started around the 13th century? In the early days, church decrees forbade people from consuming eggs during the holy period of Lent. So, to celebrate the end of Lent, people painted and decorated eggs and gave them as gifts. Over time, this tradition transformed into the modern-day custom of Easter egg hunting and egg decorating. Moreover, the world's largest Easter egg, according to the Guinness World Records, stands at over 31 feet high and weighs a whopping 7,200 kilograms. It was built in Vegreville, Canada, as a tribute to the Ukrainian immigrants in the region!Share & Embed
