Learn more about Good Friday

Good Friday, also known as Holy Friday or Black Friday, is a Christian holiday commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary. Observed during the Holy Week as part of the Paschal Triduum on Friday preceding Easter Sunday, it may coincide with the Jewish observance of Passover. The significance of Good Friday lies in the belief that Christ's sacrifice - his suffering, death, and resurrection - paves the way for humanity's salvation. The 'Good' in Good Friday comes from old English when Good meant Holy. It is hence also known as Holy Friday. Rituals and traditions on this vary globally, including church services, prayer vigils, fasting, and processional reenactments of the crucifixion. It is a day of sorrow, penance, and mourning.
