Learn more about Cyber Monday
Cyber Monday refers to the online shopping event that occurs the Monday after Thanksgiving. The term was first coined in 2005 by the National Retail Federation to encourage people to shop online. It was introduced as a way to compete with the traditional Black Friday shopping day, but quickly became an event of its own, capitalizing on the growth of internet usage and online commerce. On this day, both major retail stores and small businesses offer significant discounts and promotions on their online platforms. It has since grown to become one of the biggest online shopping days of the year worldwide, not only in the United States. Despite being called Cyber 'Monday', the deals typically begin on the previous weekend and may extend throughout the week.
Fun Fact
Did you know that Cyber Monday wasn't a popular shopping day until 2005? The National Retail Federation realized that people were continuing their Black Friday shopping online when they returned to work on Monday. Observing this trend, they coined the term 'Cyber Monday' and started running special deals to encourage online shopping. Pretty soon, this trend caught on and resulted in $2.68 billion in sales in 2014. Over the years, it has continued growing and in 2020, shoppers spent a record-breaking $10.8 billion online on Cyber Monday, making it the biggest online shopping day in U.S. history.Share & Embed
