Learn more about Halloween

Halloween, also known as Allhalloween, All Hallows' Eve, or All Saints' Eve, is a celebration observed in many countries on 31 October, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows' Day. This tradition originated from ancient Celtic harvest festivals, particularly the Gaelic festival Samhain, that marked the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter or the "darker half" of the year. People celebrate Halloween by dressing up in various costumes, going trick-or-treating, and engaging in various other festive activities. It is also often associated with the themes of fall, horror, mythology, and the supernatural.

Fun Fact

Did you know that Halloween, celebrated every year on October 31, has roots in the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain? The Celts, who lived about 2,000 years ago, believed that the night before their new year - which was November 1 - the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred, and the ghosts returned to earth. They would have bonfires and wear costumes to ward off these ghosts. Today’s Halloween traditions such as carving jack-o'-lanterns and trick-or-treating can be traced back to these old practices. Now that's a spooky history!
